Storied

Narrative artwork is that which tells a story. Whether it be a personal experience, a historical happening, or an imagined tale… narrative artwork brings us together in a shared experience of curiosity and interpretation. It allows artists to communicate directly to the viewer, pulling them in to a moment in time or a sequence of events.

From Frida Kahlo’s many hauntingly beautiful self portraits to Artemisia Gentileschi’s interpretation of “Susanna and the Elders,” and even as far back as cave paintings, artists have always found ways to tell a story through their work. At its very core, art is a form of communication, allowing its viewer to think and feel, interpret and explore, learn and grow. This exhibition was open to all those who tell stories, and juror Jen Brown selected work by 30 artists to be exhibited.

Artists: Orianna Abels, Dennis Ahearn, Trudy Borenstein- Sugiura, Terry Brewer, Carla Castro, Madeline Devantier, Laurel Dugan, Jessica Fogle, Elena Behrakis, Amanda Hamblin, Laurie Hoen, Cole Hoyer-Winfield, Grace Kerr, Deborah Kovacs-Sturdevant, Dennis Linn, Alan McLuckie, Denise Monaghan, Taryn Sakry, Lani Shapton, Yun Shin, Steve Sult, Paula Swisher, Jordan Szala, Tyler Toole, Bart Vargas, Jerry Weems, Tanya Wilkinson, Kristy Winterbourne, Kendra Yapyapan
