Night Vision
“Nothing good happens after midnight.”
It is a familiar saying that warns against the risks and uncertainties of the night. This exhibition offers a rebuttal.
Painting at night may seem contradictory to the artistic process, yet it has a long and rich history. Depictions of the night, often referred to as Nocturnes, a term popularized by painter James McNeill Whistler in the 1870s, have been a recurring subject in Western art since the Renaissance and continue to inspire night owls today.
From plein air painters working outdoors under moonlight to Magical Realists capturing the ethereal mood of twilight, and from contemporary artists working until the early morning hours, the night offers a unique space for creativity and productivity.
This exhibition welcomes those drawn to the vivid colors of the night and those who feel most awake after sunset. It offers, perhaps, a measure of solace for creative insomnia.

About the Juror
Andrew Dubach is a multi-media artist with a BFA in Sculpture and a background in art history. Over the past decade, he has worked in galleries, museums, arts nonprofits, and artist collectives while curating exhibitions across a range of venues. His work has been shown throughout the U.S. and Europe, and he has helped secure funding for large-scale public art projects. He currently works full-time as an artist and is a member of Artlink Gallery.
